You can sandboard on the largest sand dunes on the East Coast at the Jockey’s Ridge State Park in Nags Head, North Carolina, one of the main sand surfing destinations in the USA.

Sandboarding at Jockey’s Ridge State Park – Nags Head, Outer Banks

Great sand dunes with very soft sand, close to the town of Nags Head where you can a board and obtain a sandboarding permit. If you bring your own sandboard, then you will need to obtain a permit from the Jockey’s Ridge Park office. You do not need a permit for sand sledding which is especially popular with kids and practiced with cardboard and bodyboards. The sandboarding season goes from October to March.


You can rent your sandboard from Kitty Hawk Kites for $25 (4 hours) or $40 (full day). You will also need to sign a waiver or have your guardian sign for you if you are under 18.
