Burning Man, the annual gathering in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert, is a festival of art and community that attracts tens of thousands of participants from around the globe.
Each year, the event is guided by a unique theme that shapes the art installations, performances, and overall atmosphere of the festival.
For 2024, the theme is “Curiouser & Curiouser”, a phrase borrowed from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.
Here’s everything we know so far about Burning Man 2024:
Dates and Location
Burning Man 2024 is scheduled to take place from Sunday, August 25, 2024, to Monday, September 2, 2024.
The event will be held in its traditional location, the Black Rock Desert in Nevada.
This vast, flat expanse of desert provides the perfect canvas for the temporary metropolis known as Black Rock City, which springs up during the event and disappears without a trace afterward, in keeping with the festival’s principle of “Leave No Trace.”
Theme: Curiouser & Curiouser
The theme for Burning Man 2024, “Curiouser & Curiouser,” invites participants to embrace the irrational, the absurd, and the unknown.
It’s a celebration of puzzles without answers and an invitation to the unknown.
The theme encourages participants to step outside their comfort zones, embrace the unexpected, and immerse themselves in the immediacy of being.
The theme draws inspiration from Lewis Carroll’s Alice, who navigates a topsy-turvy world immune to the laws of common sense, much like the Black Rock City created during Burning Man.
The event encourages participants to step out of their comfort zones, embrace the unexpected, and immerse themselves in the immediacy of being.
Participation and Volunteering
Burning Man is a participatory event, meaning that everyone who attends is encouraged to contribute in some way.
This could be through creating art, performing, volunteering, or simply engaging with others in a spirit of generosity and inclusion.
If you’re interested in participating or volunteering, you can fill out the Volunteer Questionnaire on the Burning Man website.

Will Burning Man 2024 be as eventful as last year?
Burning Man 2023 was a year of unprecedented challenges. The festival was marred by a series of unfortunate events, starting with a protest by climate activists that blocked the road to the festival, causing a traffic jam and clashes with attendees.
The event also faced severe weather conditions, with heavy rains transforming the typically dry Black Rock Desert into a muddy expanse.
This led to a temporary halt in activities, with attendees advised to conserve food, water, and fuel.
And even before this series of catastrophic events, the festival saw a dip in attendance due to various factors, including financial issues amidst inflation, layoffs by tech companies, and the entertainment industry strikes.
Despite these setbacks, the spirit of Burning Man remained undeterred, with attendees adapting to the new reality and finding ways to navigate the challenges.
As we look forward to Burning Man 2024, we hope for a smoother and less eventful experience.
Here’s to a successful and memorable Burning Man 2024!
