The closest sandboarding spot to Johannesburg is Mt. Mayhem, situated in Boksburg, just outside of Benoni and about a 30 minute drive from Joburg.

Mt. Mayhem is not a real mountain, but rather a mine dump and leftover site of an ancient gold mine, with slopes suitable for sandboarding.
