The Hermosa Beach sand berms are a popular spot for dune sledding, particularly for children, due to their relatively gentle slopes which offer a good balance of challenge and safety.
The sand berms are located on either side of the Hermosa Pier and provide a good location for sledding and other beach activities and family fun.
Like other beaches all around Los Angeles, during the winter months sand berms are constructed to protect the beach from strong winds and waves, but these artificial sand dunes have a much more recreational purpose, as kids love to slide down their slopes using sleds and disc saucers of all kind.
The beach sledding season in LA starts in November (usually around Thanksgiving) all the way to late February or early March, depending on weather.

Hermosa Beach Pier
The Hermosa Beach sand berms are large mounds of sand located on either side of the Hermosa Pier that provide ample oceanfront space for activities such as sledding, sunbathing, sandcastle building, and picnicking.
This beach is a popular choice for families with children, second only to Venice Beach, and has ample parking options including both parking lots and street parking. However, it can get crowded at times.
