Sandboarding is still an emerging sport in Africa, so there’s plenty of room for personal discovery.

The vast, arid plains of the Sahara and the deserts of Namibia and South Africa offer some of the best sandboarding in the world.

These huge deserts are made up of dunes that are constantly shaped by strong winds and the whims of the desert.

Sand Boarding in Africa

When it comes to sandboarding, Southern Africa is relatively well organized to accomodate thrill-seekers: you’ll be able to rent sandboards and hire trained guides to take you out to the dunes.

This is especially true for Namibia and South Africa where the sport is widely practiced.

Sandboarding has also been reported in countries like Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Chad, and Libya.

In some countries, you might be able to rent an old pair of skis for sand-skiing, but there are no local adventure guides.

If you are heading to the dunes by yourself, make sure to ask the locals for directions and always make sure to be covered by a legit sandsports insurance.
