If you are wondering whether there are any sandboarding spots in CDMX, the answer is yes! Within the enormous metropolitan area of the city you can find a slope of volcanic origin, called “El Arenal”, in the town of San Andrés Totoltepec, where you can slide down with your board.

El Arenal – San Andrés Totoltepec, Ciudad del Mexico
This is a very unique location for sandboarding in Mexico, located within the borders of large urban area rather than in a desert: the “dune” is really a hill made of volcanic ashes from the nearby volcano Xitle. The sand granules are dark and porous, making the experience similar to volcano boarding.
