Under the new policy, sound systems within the city must be loud enough so that people can speak at a conversational level at the border of a neighboring camp or at the center point of a street. Conversational levels are defined as 60 decibels (dbA). Bass levels (dbC) must be negotiated with neighbors.

Large-scale sound installations, such as sound camps, must be located in the Large Scale Sound Zone. They may express themselves unless community complaints persist. Camps on Esplanade may amplify sound 100 feet into the open playa before conversational levels are expected.

The new policy has been met with mixed reactions from Burning Man participants. Some people have praised the changes, saying that they will help to reduce noise pollution and create a more peaceful environment.

Others have expressed concerns that the new rules will stifle creativity and make it more difficult for art cars and sound camps to participate in the event.

Burning Man organizers say that they are committed to working with participants to ensure that the new sound policy is fair and effective. They also say that they will be monitoring the policy closely and making adjustments as needed.

The new sound policy is one of a number of changes that Burning Man organizers have made in recent years in an effort to reduce environmental impact and improve the overall experience for participants.

The new sound policy is also part of a larger effort by Burning Man organizers to address the issue of noise pollution in the Black Rock Desert. Viime vuosina, there have been complaints from nearby residents about the noise level at Burning Man.

The new policy is designed to help to reduce noise pollution and make the event more compatible with the surrounding community.

The following changes will be implemented once the festival takes place:

  • Art cars and sound camps that have been granted permits will be allowed to play amplified sound during quiet hours, but they will be subject to strict volume limits.
  • Sound camps will be required to install noise monitors to ensure that they are complying with the volume limits.
  • Burning Man organizers will be monitoring the sound levels at Burning Man closely and making adjustments to the policy as needed.

The new sound policy is a significant change for Burning Man, but it is one that organizers believe is necessary to protect the environment and create a more sustainable and equitable experience for everyone.
