Città della Roccia Nera, Nevada – The Burning Man festival in Nevada has been thrown into chaos after heavy rains caused flooding and mudslides and led to one person dying. The cause of the death has not been released.
The festival was scheduled to run from August 27 a settembre 4, e had already faced flooding-related challenges and delayes prior to launch in the aftermaths of Storm Hilary.
The new wave of flooding began on Friday night and continued throughout Saturday. More than one-half inch of rain is believed to have fallen on Friday at the festival site, situato circa 110 miglia (177 chilometri) north of Reno, the National Weather Service in Reno said.
More rain is forecasted, insieme a an estimated 70,000 people still at Burning Man and unable to leave.

La playa, a dry lakebed where the festival is held, is not well-equipped to handle heavy rain. The flooding caused mudslides and road closures, and there were reports of power outages and water shortages.
Authorities have confirmed a death at the festival. The death occurred “during this rain event,” the Pershing County Sheriff’s Office confirmed. “As this death is still under investigation, there is no further information available at this time,” the police force said in a statement.
A recommendation from the organizers of the festival in northern Nevada to remain in place remains after flooding from storms swept through the Nevada desert. Festival organizers were forced to close access to vehicles, and attendees were told to stay where they were and conserve their supplies.
False rumors have also been circulating about the festival, including mentions of an Ebola outbreak and of a “fire tornado”, which have not been confirmed. A video circulating of a “fire tornado” on X (formerly Twitter) was actually dating back to last year, and the ongoing challenge for attendees at Burning Man is heavy rain and mud.
