The 64th International Camel and Ostrich Races will return to the track in Virginia City, Nevada, on September 8-10, 2023. This family-friendly event is a must-see for anyone looking for a unique and fun experience.

The Legend Behind the Camel Races
The International Camel and Ostrich Races in Virginia City have a long and storied history. The tradition began in 1959, when the editor of the Territorial Enterprise wrote a fake story about camels racing in Virginia City. The San Francisco Chronicle didn’t realize it was a hoax and printed the story. The following year, the Enterprise borrowed camels from the San Francisco Zoo and brought them to Virginia City to race them. And that’s how a tradition was born.
