Florence, Oregon – A unique art exhibit is captivating visitors at the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce’s visitor center and art gallery at 290 Highway 101 in Florence.
Running through the end of February, the exhibit features handcrafted sandboards by Lon Beale, also known as Dr. Dune, a prominent figure in the sandboarding community.
With a passion for adventure and creativity, Beale founded Sand Master Park in Florence, Oregon, in 2000, and has now embarked on a quest to turn sandboads into an art form.
Sand Master Park is the world’s first sandboard park, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the thrill of sandboarding on the expansive dunes of the Oregon Coast.
Sandboarding is a unique activity that involves riding a snowboard-like board on sand dunes, and it can be practiced on different locations in Oregon and the all around the US.

Dr. Dune’s sandboards are not just functional but also stunning pieces of art, boasting vibrant and intricate designs.

Beale’s background in graphic design and screen printing shines through in his work. He has operated a graphic screen printing/silk screening shop, Xwest Custom Apparel, in southern California for over 40 years.
Moving to Florence in 2000, Beale founded Sand Master Park and has been instrumental in establishing Florence as The Sandboarding Capital of the World.
The exhibit showcases a variety of sandboards, each with its own unique design. Beale’s passion for both graphic arts and sandboarding is evident in every piece.
