The Badwater 135 Ultramarathon 2023 will take place on Tuesday-Thursday, July 4-6, 2023.
The race starts at Badwater Basin, in Death Valley, and ends at an elevation of 2,548 meters (8,359 feet) at Whitney Portal, the staging ground to Mount Whitney.
The Badwater 135 Ultramarathon is a grueling 135-mile (217-kilometer) race that spans from Death Valley to Mt. Whitney in California.
It is considered the most demanding and extreme running race in the world, and it serves as the 135-Mile World Championship.
The race starts at Badwater Basin, the lowest point in North America, at an elevation of 280 feet (85 meters) below sea level.
Runners then ascend to Whitney Portal, which is at an elevation of 8,300 feet (2,530 meters).
Along the way, they will experience a total of 14,600 feet (4,450 meters) of cumulative vertical ascent and 6,100 feet (1,859 meters) of cumulative descent.
The Badwater 135 is a true test of physical and mental endurance. Runners must be prepared to face scorching temperatures, challenging terrain, and relentless elevation changes. It is a race that only the most determined and resilient athletes can complete.
Yoshihiko Ishikawa and Ashley Paulson emerged as the winners of the 2022 Badwater 135 Ultramarathon. Ishikawa claimed victory in the men’s category, setting a new course record with a remarkable time of 23:08:20.
Paulson dominated the women’s category, also setting a new course record, finishing the race in an impressive time of 24:09:34. Their exceptional performances solidified their positions as champions in this grueling endurance race.
The 2023 Badwater 135 will take place starting on July 4th. This year’s race is expected to be even more challenging than usual, as temperatures are expected to be even hotter than in previous years.
